Gauntlet Directors Lead From The Front In Taking Up AR Opportunity

Two directors of Leeds-based Gauntlet Group bought into the group’s Appointed Representative opportunity so much that they’ve decided to become Appointed Representatives themselves.

In the true spirit of the Remington advertising strap line of the late 1970s, Ian McCarron and Paul Coates, have established their own Appointed Representative (AR) brokerage – McCarron Coates – with Gauntlet as their AR principal.  Both will work with Gauntlet on a day-to-day basis, tapping into its in-depth experience and resources to assist clients with their commercial and motor fleet needs.

The Gauntlet head office team, comprising over 60 employees, will provide them with expert back-up and support.  The pair now become one of over 40 ARs partnering with Gauntlet through its Appointed Representative arm, Gauntlet Enterprise.

Roger Gaunt, managing director of Gauntlet, says: “The AR role suits Ian and Paul perfectly, as both enjoy working with clients.  Naturally, we are delighted to have two talented people driving forward a business that is shared between them and Gauntlet Group.  Their growth will directly benefit Gauntlet’s.

“Having mentored them for many years after founding Gauntlet in 1994, it is rewarding to see them have the confidence to start their own business, with our support.

The move is accompanied by the arrival of Nick Etell, who has become Business Development Manager.   Nick is a hugely experienced insurance professional, formerly with Henderson Insurance Brokers, for whom he set up a London office.

A restructuring within Gauntlet had already created a new degree of empowerment for a group of talented managers who are the backbone of Gauntlet’s motor fleet arm, which carries out all of the broking for bus and coach, haulage and courier fleet business. Nothing will change in terms of interaction between this team and Gauntlet’s many motor fleet clients.

This team has already demonstrated its first-class credentials, having earned Gauntlet Chartered Insurance Broker status in the second half of 2017.

Gauntlet is also about to launch a new, bespoke IT system, following a year of development and significant investment.  This will provide huge advantages as it moves into its next stage of growth and will provide its clients and ARs with super-efficient service and support.
